Cortaderia selloana | Little Pampa

‘Little Pampa’ is for gardeners who love the unmistakable plumes of pampas grass but do not have room for a towering traditional variety. It forms a much more compact mound of narrow green foliage and produces substantial creamy-white plumes from late summer into fall. The result is an architectural focal point that brings height, softness and movement without overwhelming a patio or modest border.

Use it as a specimen in a sunny courtyard, repeat it along a modern walkway, or feature it in a large container where the plumes can be backlit by afternoon sun. The flowers are also excellent for drying. Because its impact comes from both form and texture, it continues to look purposeful even when nearby flowers are between bloom cycles.

Growing notes: Plant in full sun in sharply drained soil and avoid winter-wet positions. Water consistently during establishment; established plants tolerate periods of dryness. Wear gloves when handling or cutting the foliage, as the leaf edges can be sharp. Leave the plumes for winter interest and trim back in spring.
