‘Poul Petersen’ solves a common planting problem: how to add height and movement without creating a heavy block of foliage. It forms a tidy, low clump of green leaves, then sends up slender, upright stems carrying airy purple flowers well above the foliage. You can see through the plant, so it layers beautifully among perennials instead of hiding them.

As the season progresses, the stems and foliage turn burnished golden brown and the fine seedheads remain attractive into winter. Use it where a border feels flat, where you want a light screen rather than a wall, or where low plants need a vertical companion. It is equally at home in a naturalistic meadow-style planting or a clean, modern scheme.

Growing notes: Plant in full sun or part shade in soil that does not become extremely dry. It appreciates consistent moisture but should not sit in stagnant water. Leave the stems standing over winter, then cut the entire clump to the ground in late winter before fresh growth emerges.
