Introduced in the 1800s as a red-blushed sport of the well-known Clapp’s Favourite, it was selected for its improved colour and attractive fruit. The pears ripen early, with smooth green skin washed in red and tender, juicy flesh. Mildly sweet and best enjoyed fresh, ‘Red Clapp’s’ is ideal for gardeners eager for the first pears of the season. A pollination partner such as Bosc, Conference or Flemish Beauty is required for fruit set.
