If you are looking to extend your flowering season, Salvia ‘April Night’ is a great choice. It begins flowering almost a month earlier than the popular variety, May Night. The flowers are a gorgeous blue color, rising above crisp dark green foliage. The bloom season is long on this variety and they attract pollinators of all types, especially honey bees and bumblebees. As I was planting the meadow the bumblebees were among the very first visitors and they immediately zoned in on these Salvia’s. I love to combine April Night with Sesleria grasses as the fine foliage and texture of the ornamental grasses provides a striking contrast.
